It’s also a time for cleansing of old energy to make way for new energy. We look to see what’s worth holding onto, and what needs letting go. Habits, relationships, fears, jobs, perspectives that restrict our view.

And, of course, it’s a time that we reset goals. I am a big fan of goals. They channel energy, focus attention, increase productivity, and provide a sense of accomplishment on the journey and at the finish line. Often, goals are the springboard that lead us to doing things we never thought we could.
However, goals are not effective if they have to be rushed or forced.
I’m not a fan of using the turn of a calendar page from one year to another as a form of pressure to “have it all figured out.” Unfortunately, it’s not always that easy. You may not have it all figured out. You may not know what you’d like to create for your life by the time the clock strikes 12:01 AM on the morning of January 1. And that’s okay.
There are multiple roads here. Each year is your own Pick-A-Path adventure where you get to choose the ending, page by page, day by day.
You might start the year with clarity and a raft of goals listed out in the pages of your progress journal. Or you might need to tread a little more softly and try the year on for size first. Some growth happens in lists, bullet points and schedules. Some growth happens in the creation of space for the unknown to come forth.

How does nearly two weeks into January feel for you right now?
Are you seeing what fits? Creating space? Charging forward? Getting back on track?
Wherever you are at is okay, as long as you are okay with where you are. Listen to the voice within and if you hear struggle, look for one of two things:
a) You are out of alignment with what’s truly important to you by following a path that’s not taking you in the direction of your values (and sometimes, that’s just through procrastination because you know exactly what it’s important you but it’s hard!); or,
b) You are forcing or rushing something before it’s time.
In either case, create space. You might need half an hour. You might need a whole day. Make the space, breathe into it, and give yourself permission to just be. Your next steps will present themselves soon enough, and sometimes you just need to give yourself permission to remain in a state of unknowing right now.
